Canterbury Interschool Chess Competitions

Due to the Level-2 status throughout the country, all 2020 events have been CANCELLED.

Sadly, the ISCCT Trustees have been forced to cancel the remaining competitions for 2020 in view of the current COVID-19 restrictions.

We still intend to run a full program of events in 2021, so please keep checking in.

To support schools in the interim, we are pleased to make available Trust sets, boards and clocks. If you wish to book these resources, please send an email to Marty Lukes via this link: Request resources

Who are we?

We are a group of volunteers who for many decades have been passionately supporting the interschool chess competitions in Canterbury, New Zealand to run at a reasonable cost for students. We are very proud of our ongoing feedback which is our events are well organised, that our people provide a safe, supportive environment for students.

The regional qualifying competition we run is the only one in Canterbury where schools can proceed on to further official New Zealand Chess Federation competitions.

The Trust also runs other events each year - a full list and online entry forms are available in the Competitions section of our website. Students can play in Term 2 and 3 competitions and also participate in workshops. We have a teacher on the Trust that can support you with setting up a club in your school.

Thank you for checking out what we are offering and we look forward to seeing you at our events. If you have any queries or are interested in supporting us as a Trustee or volunteer at events (either as an arbiter or setting up the night before), please do email. We are also very keen to hear from students from Year 7 up who would be interested in training as arbiters.
