Inter-School Chess Charitable Trust Board

Welcome to The Press Chess Inter-School Competitions

( Years 1-6 and Years 7-8 sections )

Lincoln Primary are our Year 1-6 Canterbury and South Island champions
Cobham and Cathedral Grammar share the Year 7-8 honours

The Press Chess Competition is an interschool chess tournament between teams of four players run in Canterbury, New Zealand.
Winning teams progress to the national final that is organised by the New Zealand Chess Federation.

Congratulations to Lincoln Primary, winners of the Year 1-6 section of the 2010 Press Chess Competition. Cathedral Grammar were second. Westburn Primary were third.

Congratulations to Cobham Intermediate, winners of the Year 7-8 section of the 2010 Press Chess Competition. Cathedral Grammar were second by the smallest of margins. Christchurch South were third.

The South Island championship was run as a separate event this year. Thanks to organiser Ken Pow and Ashburton Intermediate. Lincoln Primary won the Year 1-6 section with Cathedral Grammar second. Cathedral Grammar won the year 7-8 section with Cobham second, a reversal of the Press Chess result.

The New Zealand final is being hosted at Christchurch Boys' High School on the weekend of September 25/26 in the school holidays. Only one team per section from the Press Chess Competition has automatic entry to the final this year. Those teams are Lincoln Primary and Cobham Intermediate.

Results for the 2010 zone competitions are available on the results page.
